It is difficult to answer this without more information however it may be that there is more competition for the keyword in the US than the other regions so there may be more sites targeting the term and more sites that have optimised their site for the term.
It may be that the sites link profile is strong enough compared to its UK/Canadian competitors but not when compared to the US sites. it may be worth doign some competitor analysis to see how your site stacks up against the top US sites that are ranking for that term.
