I am currently getting links to my site where the anchor text is, say, domainx.com. However, my website's url is domainy.com - the anchor text is the url of another website. Is this hurting my website in the SERPS, or making my link building look unnatural? The link is on the blog roll of another website, so it has produced hundreds, maybe thousands of copies of this anchor text link. Does that have any impact on my ranking as well?

I'd be more worried about the second part of your question. If there are thousands of links coming from one domain, you could be in trouble. Try to scale this number down into double digits if you can...

The domain itself.. that's weird and I would want to fix it for branding issues (I'm assuming you are expecting traffic via this link, right?) so people should know where they are going and not be shocked when they get somewhere else. This is more of a reputation/marketing/branding issue than an SEO issue, but SEO is marketing anyway. RIGHT?!

I would worry about the anchor text but not because it will make my link profile look unnatural but because of the branding issues. I mean if this is a link that is also transferring some targeted traffic to my website then I would really want to change the anchor text or else it will kill the user’s experience who is working on my website.

If the links are in 1000’s this is really shocking and a spammy signal to Google so if you can down the number awesome or else try to get your link removed from their website.

          Hope this helps!

          • Client wants to remove mobile URLs from their sitemap to avoid indexing issues. However this will require SEVERAL billing hours. Is having both mobile/desktop URLs in a sitemap really that detrimental to search indexing?
