Our site is almost 2 years old and has Domain authority of 52. We are concerned it is too low. Wanted to get some expert opinion if we are on the right track or if are far behind from where we should have been by now?

One of the biggest mistakes made in SEO is keeping up with the Jones' - there is always going to be a higher number you can achieve, but what is important is to take the time to step back and look at your users and your industry.

Maybe 52 is just an unheard of number in your industry for domain authority (I've worked in many industries and would be quite content with a client who had a 52 on their domain authority). Look at your competitors and also remember that your page authority is often FAR more important than just your domain authority.

After that step back and look at it from a user perspective. Even go so far as to ask your users what they are getting from your site, what are they lacking and what you could do to improve. When you build out the user experience metrics that effect SEO and authority rise, plus you are increasing your users chances of advocacy and thus giving you more backlinks and more traffic.

To many people are obsessed with numbers and while they are important they are nothing compared to the users. Build for them, don't focus on tactics that increase your numbers, focus on these evergreen strategies that put users front and center and your domain authority will rise in no time.

Wikipedia is a great example of this, there has never been a strategy to grow their domain authority and yet today they are one of the 100s around because users enjoyed their experience so much that they shared it, built it, linked too it and as such it grew.

          Adam,

Thank you taking so much time to respond. We really appreciate it. The leaders in our industry are at 65-75 but their domains are around 5- 10 years old.  We will keep you advise in mind in regards to next steps.

          Thank you
