Keywords with a city suffix
-
Hi Pros,
Here is our question / dilemma...
Context/Background
_Our company has 41 offices around the US and Europe; _
_We (our SEO) teams results are based on someone in a specific postcode/zipcode opening Chrome/IE/FF and searching using Google/Bing/Yahoo _
_(keyword) + (city) _
i.e. Ice cream Manhattan or Computer services Manhattan
Our methodology is - (a) Choose an office (zipcode), identify the territory city names required for that Office's SEO goals. (b) begin to develop the strategy and execute (c) wait 1-2 months and test
Question
Using SEOmoz we are not sure HOW we could even begin to track the keywords?
-
You know what keywords you are targeting. At first, create you kw inventory off these. Once you get some data (in analytics), add the KW's people use to get to the site to your inventory.
-
but what happens when we have
"ice cream warren" where WARREN the city is located in several states.
the tools will find non-relevant results correct.
is there a means to simulate the results from a zip-code or location or is everything National?
-
That is a great question! We do not display or have a way to display location based info, only universal organic results. We do, however, hope to add this functionality in the near future.

Given that the SEOMoz tool doesn't offer the capability to do local search tracking, you may want to seriously consider BrightLocal, Mark. It's a terrific tool and the subscriptions are really affordable, even for the large number of locals you'd need to track. (No affiliation, just like the tool).
Does that look like it might do what you need?
Paul
P.S. Whitespark also has a local rank tracker that looks terrific, but it isn't currently accepting subscribers

I have to agree. I really like BrightLocal
