Moving form .co.uk to .com - Best way?
-
We are a UK agency and we have grown our .co.uk domain, it has rankings etc. However, we didn't want to focus on the UK market and we have managed to buy out the .com - so my question is, which will be best from now: leave the .co.uk live and allow it to focus on the UK, and grow .com separately, or kill .co.uk and move it all over to .com ?
And how will be the best way to move ahead with either? Appreciate the answers as we haven't really done this before and want to get it right

Hi there,
Since you are not an eCommerce then the best way to do this is to use only one domain ( .com). You have to set up 301 redirect on the server level from co.uk to .com and you should be fine.

Thanks for the reply. We are an SEO agency, so you think it will be best to move across to the .com and do 301 redirect? Also, if so, should we attempt to get the links we've built to be changed to the .com where possible?

Yes, I think that would be the best option to do redirect on the server level, but not on the registrar level. Ideally, you should update the links from sites where possible since you are losing around 30% of SEO equity if you do 301 redirect.
