Is there any set benefit in using a URL tracking engine on a domain for passing link juice?
I.E. xxxx.com?$id=1111 to then redirect to shareasale? The client has an affiliate program and is thinking of running one in-house as well. Is there a benefit to a “redirect engine” that uses the website root domain?

The main reason to use a redirect engine on your site would be either for safety purposes to scan the URL for malware or in order not to pass the rank (SEO juice) by Disallowing/NoIndexing the redirect engine URL.
If you are looking to help rank the linked site, then what you should do is use an old-fashioned DoFollow link. Otherwise, feel free to use a redirect engine.

For SEO it's always better to link directly, rather than linking to a page which then redirects. Redirects only pass large amounts of SEO authority to 'similar' pages (there are checks and balances on this). You could experiment with something like this, but I doubt it will result in much uplift really
