My URL's are too long. Is this critical and should I change them?

Hi
I push for short well-crafted URL's - as I believe it improves the customer experience.
For example my recommendation would be even shorter:-
http://www.londonstone.co.uk/coping-stones/bespoke/riven/
Google reads them as one topic, ie "Riven Bespoke Copping Stones". The next step is the Title tags and H1 and contextual relevant content. .
Would also look at a canonical back to parent pages if the subfolders go too deep - or if wanted to rank for "copping stones" as the priority.
Here is a great Moz resource on topic. https://moz.com/blog/15-seo-best-practices-for-structuring-urls
Hope that helps,

Hi,
The shorter the better
In principle there is no limit for the length of a URL, but it is recommended that it be short for two reasons:For the user it will be much easier to read and understand a short URL than a long one
The positioning capacity of a word in a URL is lower the more to the right of the URL it is and the more words the URL has
For this reason you have to eliminate everything that is not necessary in a URL, ie articles and prepositions of the URL, for example, if the URL is "How to improve the SEO of your blog" the URL should remain in "how-" improve-seo-blog "Regards

Thanks so much Don & Jose for the brilliant advice.
Makes perfect sense.
When I asked my SEO company about this they advised that the longer URL's were ok

I will make the changes that you both suggested..........thanks

BTW - this is a perfect example of "how it should not look like":
in a lot cases I would say - redirect old urls is complecated for Google - and even John Mueller told me not to do it, if it is not really needed. But in your example, it looks like ... needed.

Hi
Recommend remove the / ie as follows:-
http://www.londonstone.co.uk/porcelain-garden-steps/5mm-pencil-round-beola-bianca/
That should work on magento.
I would add that I would also recommend a parent page - ie
http://www.londonstone.co.uk/beola-bianca/ and on that page have content on the same plus link to all products.
Hope that helps.
