Kentico vs. Magento
-
Hello,
My company is looking to upgrade CMS systems for our ecommerce website and would like feedback on which system is better for our needs. We have some pretty hefty data with nearly 100,000 SKUs in our database and need a CMS system that can handle all of it, while still providing a good user experience.
Looking forward to your thoughts and recommendations!

I should also add that we are looking at the enterprise version of each of these systems!

I'm not familiar with Kentico, but our company runs 2 sites on Magento. They're highly customized enterprise installations. Both sites are pretty complex, but one is significantly more than the other - 800,000+ SKUs, parent/child, kitted SKUs, virtual SKUs, etc.
Magento handles it well for us. Data problems are the biggest issue - we have tons of databases (SharePoint, SQL, etc.) that feed into it, so if something gets out of sync, a scheduled push doesn't occur, you don't know where a certain piece of data is coming from, that can cause headaches. But these generally tend to be problems on our end and not something caused by Magento.
But it's definitely a great platform. Since it's so widely used, if you don't like how something's working, you can almost always find an extension to alter it. And it's pretty easy to use, so you should be able to train merchants, etc. to do their part.

Take a look at these sites for some helpful information. I have a preference for OpenCart, I think it is definitely better than either of these two. It is more affordable and easier to manage. You will never outgrow it either, which you can do with these other platforms.
That being said, if you have a preference for these two alone, I would choose Magento over Kentico. Magento has more support and is all around a larger company. That means they have a fully funded research and development team, meaning you will have consistent tech support and upgrade options.

I only have experience with kentico on non ecommerce sites and would tend to second what others have said about magento being the best of class for ecommerce.
That being said, not sure if the enterprise version changes anything in terms of system setup but kentico is asp/windows based and magento is php based so I would think that the kind of hosting/dev environment you have and the team involved in development would indicate which of these would be a better fit no?

Hello
I can only comment regarding Kentico CMS really as I have been using it for a long time and in my experience Kentico can handle your requirements perfectly!
The user experience is amazing and always improving. Kentico’s latest version (version 8.1) is far smoother and easy to use than ever before. With my experience with them, Kentico listen to us and want to always improve, so suggestions are always welcomed and improvements are applied :).
With such situations like yours, it would be good to contact Kentico as they are always happy to help and provides suggestions on how to handle large data sizes. http://www.kentico.com/Support/Consulting/Overview
So I would heavily recommend Kentico to you. They also have an awesome Kentico EMS version, which enables Online Marketers within your company to utilise the CMS for lots of Online Marketing such as A/B Testing, MVT Testing, Content Personalisation and Marketing Automation to just name a few of the features!
You could always download a demo of Kentico to see how you like it? http://www.kentico.com/Download-Demo
