Best Tool for Reviewing 301 Redirects Working After Migration

Hi,

We just migrated from Magento to Shopify. I currently am using a 404 checker looking for broken URL's (found quite a bit and is updated daily). Is there anything else I should use to check to make sure all redirects are working correctly from the old website? I did use screaming frog to download all our old URL's. What is the best way to make sure we are not missing any broken redirects, or is my 404 error checker enough?

Just wanting to make sure I am not missing anything I should be checking with this. Would HREFS or Deep Crawl do anything else I am not currently doing?

Hi Jeff. I usually use this tool:

You enter the URL of your website and it depends on how big it will take more or less. Then it tells you if everything is in order. Very easy to use.

You also want to check for redirect chains. Moz crawl will report redirect chains. You can also use Screaming Frog.

You have Screaming Frog - it has built-in functionality for just this situation. The whole point is you need to be crawling the old URLs, no the new site.

Configure Screaming Frog to operate in List mode by clicking Mode > List in the top nav bar.

Then feed it the csv file of all the old site's URLs. (It can also work off an old xml sitemap) Click the Upload button to specify the list file to upload.

Then tell it to crawl that list of the old URLs. The result will be a report of all those URLs and which URLs they redirect to, along with the status codes. So you just need to look for the ones that still 404 and you'll know which ones still need redirects. You can also easily see unnecessary redirect chains in this report as well.
