I'm launching a website that will give daily updates. The /daily/ category needs to be kept clear for the current day updates only, so each day I will be archiving the previous days updates to another folder, for example: /archive/.

Each morning, when I archive the previous days post... the system will 301 the current url from /daily/ to /archive/ and the sitemap will be updated to reflect the change.

What I am concerned about is my site will be packed with 301's and the information is more important on the day so I would expect the majority of backlinks + social shares will be to the /daily/ category url and visitors will be 301'd to the new url.

How would this affect my SEO and is there a cleaner way to do this so?

Great question! If you have one post in two different categories, and one is no-index and the other is indexed, then you will not have any problems. The post will be tied to the indexed category, as far as SEO goes.

It will only be in one category at any time. So...

Upon publishing it will be in /daily/

The following morning it will be archived and moved to /archive/

So the permalink will be updated, a 301 from /daily/ > /archive/ and sitemap updated to reflect the same. The post will no longer be accessible from within the /daily/ category.

To your point, if you have an archive page where the content is shown as excerpts, or even just images with the title, then you won’t have any problems and can safely index those pages.

              lets say i publish: domain.com/todays-technicals/eurusd-breakingdown

lots of people share that link and link to it... then tomorrow i move it to:

              domain.com/archive/eurusd-breakingdown

If 60-70% of my backlinks profile is to pages that are then 301'd.... could that have a negative seo impact?

It is common practice to redirect one URL to another. When doing this, it is critical to observe best practices in order to maintain SEO value.

A redirect is a way to send both users and search engines to a different URL from the one they originally requested. The three most commonly used redirects are 301, 302, and Meta Refresh.
