How can I make a compelling financial forecast on how SEO will bring tangible value?
-
Hi all,
I am currently doing keywords research and matching it to our sales data.
With an input of resources, do you know if there is a good way to create a growth forecast as a result of SEO investment? How do I work out a strategy and align it to a compelling financial forecast?
Your experience on this will be super helpful!
Many thanks,
Eric

I would start with some market research. If you are in a competitive arena the sales growth from the SEO campaign will be less then a non competitive arena.
Do you have any case studies that could support your finding and make a case for future financial gains? (Previous clients in the same niche). Is the client willing to put x amount of dollars into a campaign to see so much growth. If the client does not have the budget to reach your goals, or if your determining what the budget should be. Basing financial growth upon a specific budget will give more credibility to your analysis. If using an arbitrary budget that a client is not capable of meeting your data will be skewed.
This is where i would start.
Thanks,
Don Silvernail

Hi Donald,
Thanks for taking the time to get back to me on my post.
They are good questions. I think the company is willing to invest strategically on SEO but at the same time we should have a good case for it. As I don't work on SEO with other clients I don't have any case studies but that is not to say I can't scan the internet for some. Thanks for your suggestion!

Thanks for your realistic and practical answer. It is super helpful!
I will definitely share your expectations of SEO returns to stakeholders. But still well worth investing in SEO if the analysis proves there is opportunity. The recording of market share is something I haven't thought of so that is something I will work on!
If you have a good logical approach to work out market share that would be really helpful...
Thanks!
