Two A Records or one CNAME and one A Record for www / naked domain?
-
What's the best way to point a domain to an IP address?
Two A records one with host @ and the other with host www ?
One A record pointing to the naked domain
One CNAME record with host www pointing to nakeddomain.comSomething else?
Thanks so much! This seems so basic, but always seems to stump me.
I'm using WordPress, if it makes difference.

Hi Adam,
It's best to consult with your web host on this one to ensure you're working within whatever restraints/quirks their system includes, but generally speaking, a single type A name record with the host @ specifying the domain including www subdomain should take care of it.
But again, you're probably best off following instructions from your web hosting provider and/or consulting their tech support team.

Thanks Mike. I'm not sure if I totally understand though. I usually buy my domains from NameCheap and host elsewhere. So, for a domain "BaltimoreJewishScouts.com" It sounds like you're saying theoretically would be to have an a record that looks like this:
A Record : Host: @ Value: www.BaltimoreJewishScouts.com
But, i am pretty certain I would need another A Record to point the domain to the IP address.
Am I misunderstanding you?
All the best,
