Rank drop after link reclamation

Link reclamation is good activity interms of technical SEO and UX. But I noticed couple of times rank drop post the link reclamation activity. Why does this happen? What might be the cause? Beside redirecting to the most relevant page in contest to the source page content; anything else we must be looking into?

"Good source" is a bit complicated here. We do have low quality back-links, but I redirected as per the relevancy from source page. As per Google, they must be devaluing any negative links. And about the speed you are asking, I redirected more than 100 links on couple of days. Will this hurts? I think it is hard for Google to find the re-directions as they will not crawl our backlinks at a time but happens at different timings which takes days to weeks based on how frequent their websites get indexed.

Most of these links might help in technical SEO but not something users might be visiting. And I think this way, before link reanimation, we lost many links. Does this hurt?
