Hi Mozzers,

Got a quick question and while it is partially answered in Moz Q&A I have an answer to the contrary on another site so I wanted to get an opinion.

I have a UK and US site - I have tagged the home pages with the relevant tags to the US doesn't rank in the UK and vice versa.

Do I need to tag every page with each URL at category and product level or is the home page sufficient along with targeting the UK or US in Google Webmaster tools.

Sorry I need to clarify - the home page href=lang tag exists on every page - not a specific tag for a each URL so while the tags exists site wide the tag only contains the home page:

Sorry to say but that isn't good enough. You would need to tag every page on your site and point it to the different language site for that specific page. Otherwise it's just not seen as a relevant page for the same keyword.

It might even hurt you as this is not how HREF Lang is supposed to work.

Thanks for your input it's very helpful and much appreciated. This is what I thought so thanks for confirming.

Are you familiar with a quick and simple way to implement this in Shopify by any chance? The issue we have is we can add something site wide in the head tag but not auto generate it for every page. That said the rel=canonical tags are on there at URL level - do you have any experience with href=lang in Shopify?

Tag all pages with proper links of course and do it on both domains/subdomains: on us "version" and uk "version".
