        Hello,

It's really difficult to answer such a question, because it can be a lack of authority links (check with OpenSiteExplorer and it seems that few links point to your website), a massive competition in this domain, or a website with few competitive advantages, just search widgets from other services/websites. Or all of these.

          Hi Paul,

As Nicholas said, it is always awkward to know what is going on without spending time looking over the site. However, I suspect that you are lacking in Links / Brand / Content - or a combination of everything.

A few questions... Your site is an Irish domain (.ie), but are you only targeting Irish traffic? Are you looking to gain visitors from other parts of the World? If so, was there a reason you went with an .ie? I also wonder if Google sees this as an EMD issue (Exact Match Domain) as this is highly sought after phrase as well.

You might also find that the site is lacking in Usability Experience as well because the content you have on each page is just long and not inviting to read.

Take your Travel Advice page - the first thing you see are options to take you somewhere else, followed by huge swathes of text.

I would say there are a wide range of things going on for a site that is in a hugely competitive niche.

          -Andy

            Hi Paul,

I agree with Nicolas: not reaching the desired results in the SERP's can be quite a few things.

Also: you wrote that the site is has no penalties because you don't see any in the Google Console. Is there a chance that you might have had a penalty? If it has been your site all the time you should know i guess.

Why not turn this around: start over, read up on SEO-blogs and sites like this. See what is necessary to get your site te rank high in the SERP's.

            Create kick-ass content
For instance: Start by creating VERY cool landingpages for long tail keywords. Wait some time and see what they do: are you able to rank that way? Not: then figure out what might be the cause of that. Maybe you do have a penalty..

In case you start moving up in the rank, copy the concept and create more unique and cool landing pages. For long tail keywords and this time for competitive keywords as well.

            Links
Also: check your link profile. Make sure you can be found where your potential visitors are looking for you. Create backlinks. NOT in a spammy way! Just make sure you haven't missed a webpage that would make sense for you to be mentioned as well.

            Social media
Every time you have created cool new content, make a very cool post for social media. Share it on Facebook and make sure people will share your post as well.

            Hang in there!
Keep this going for some time and you will see result. More direct visitors thru the links, social media mentions and Google of course.

Just a couple of tips that you maybe able to use.

            Good luck and: have fun!
            Bas

You are in a highly competitive market and will be battling against sites that have huge marketing budgets so you need to look at much more than what is on your page. You are going to have to look at trust and authority and build those by getting some amazing links.

Between content, links and UX, I couldn't say that you need to do more of one than another - each play a vial role in how Google sees your site. I would also pay attention on click through rate (CTR) because if people are hitting a page and then leaving again, this will be harmful.

Spend some time looking at your site metrics but also look at where your visitors are coming from. Are they coming from Ireland? UK? Internationally? Is the .ie working against you?

There are so many questions that should be looked at, but I hope this gives you a few pointers.

                    -Andy
