We are using BuzzSumo to explore the types of content that generate the highest number of shares per article.

Does anyone have data to suggest that a share on Google+ carries more ranking weight than a share on Twitter or Facebook, or LinkedIn?

We have seen a recent case with one of our client's competitors where they significantly grew their Google+ shares within a relatively short period of time and gained a higher rank for a key search phrase that my client is also targeting.

      Thank you,

      Rosemary Brisco

        Hi there.

It's pretty much not a secret that G+ is more valuable. We also have seen good rankings bump after successful twitter campaign. It kinda make sense - both of those are instantly indexed and is the same company (G+) or have close deals (Twitter). If i had such relationships between platforms, I'd want people to use them more over my competitors, so, I would make them count more than my competitors.

        Hope I'm right 🙂

        Cheers!

Shares on certain social networks don't necessarily have an effect from one social network to another. Google Plus doesn't necessarily have more ranking power--it doesn't work that way. What is more important to Google is the actual rate of engagement and who is sharing/interacting with it.

If one post is shared by an influencer and there are a lot of comments, that will have more ranking power than a post that's made and no one shares it. Or lots of non-influencers (spam accounts or fake profiles) share it.

Look for actual engagement and shares by influencers, not whether it's shared on one particular social network.
