        Hi,

Google actually changed how they index back in December. They switched over to indexing HTTPS by default when possible. You can read more about this change here: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-now-indexing-https-by-default-21362.html.

Based on that article, it looks like canonical tags will solve your problem. You'll just need to add self-referring HTTP canonical tags site-wide. Where you've already got canonical tags pointing to another page, ensure you have HTTP in the URL and you should be all set.

          Hi Logan

Thanks but I don't accept that as the solution especially as the https versions of site url's were not present at all last Friday. The code I have listed there should not be calling https. Calling and indexing http and https versions is wrong and will cause duplicate content. The server has to return a request for https but only if https (SSL is activated) otherwise there is no need to. If https is typed in, the natural and correct thing to happen is to have an instant redirect to http, so my thoughts are, that the script that I entered above must be coming from Wordpress somehow. The problem started over the weekend as I pointed out for the various reasons.  Thanks for your thoughts Logan but I don't think it is the best work around. A problem like this has to be nipped in the bud and I doubt that everyone with a Wordpress site has to create canonical links for every page that they want search engines to prioritise.

Please everyone feel free to offer your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I just found the website to which you are referring. All of your navigational links have HTTPS in them, not sure if that'll fix your entire problem, but it's certainly contributing.

              Hi Logan

I didn't want to list the url here so how can you have analysed it? I posted domain.com instead of the actual url. Plus the internal links are all http.

Any good SEO can find a domain based on a specific URI string 🙂

I'll DM you a screen shot of what I'm seeing to confirm.

Thanks Logan. This is obviously something I haven't learned to do yet. But an SEO's knowledge is never complete hence me asking questions here in the forum. I think we all will have our simple and more complicated questions to ask. I appreciate your help and there is certainly more I will have to learn that's for sure. 🙂
