Dentist Glasgow

Hi,
www.devonshiredentalcare.co.uk was hit badly by one of Google's algorithm updates due to some prior poor seo (by another company).
We took this client on and followed all of Google's guidelines and after a lot of work, managed to lift the penalty. It's been more than a year since the penalty was lifted, but it seems to be impossible to get this website ranking for 'Dentist Glasgow', they are currently page 4 in the SERPs!
They have lots of current Google reviews, we've built good quality links and citations, they have a 'Grade A' for on page optimisation in moz, we have started a social media campaign, regularly blog and we have also recently redesigned the website
Do you have any further suggestions to help get this website ranking?
Thanks in advance,
Faye

Hi Faye,
What worked well for me is sign up for number of local business listings such as Google My Business (I see that you are showing up there). But also yelp, yell, and many more help to link your company to a specific location.
Did you also try to optimize the homepage for that keyword with Yoast Seo tool for Wordpress? It is a good addition to Moz.
In addition you should work on the speed of the site: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.devonshiredentalcare.co.uk%2F&tab=mobile
This becomes increasingly important to the rankings.
Hope it helps!

Has mentioned page speed. Which I agree was not great on first log in.
Secondly the home page looks over optimized - The title has Dentist in it 3 times. I would do a keyword density check and I think though craftily you have gone too far with your money keywords.
Thirdly I would get an ssl certificate. You need some credibility. This appeared to work on one website for us, though no rational I can give. Linux has them coming soon... for free...
Fourthly I thought Devonshire was down south? It is in your H1. Is there any chance of confusion by google in Devonshire v Glascow.
Hope that assists. I just keep finding problems and solving them until one solutions works! It always does. Just do not keep doing the same over again and expect a different result. Happy hunting.

Hi Faye,
It sounds like you are working hard to do good things for the business, but it could be that, if you're seeing this client floundering many pages deep in the SERPs, there could be other negative issues at play. Nothing can replace a formal audit in a case like this, but here are some suggestions:
- Go through this post, bit by bit:
https://moz.com/blog/ultimate-local-seo-audit
- This one from me is a year old, and due to changes in Google, some of the methodology and terminology is outdated, but the problem concepts remain accurate:
https://moz.com/blog/troubleshooting-local-ranking-failures
- Pay very, very close attention to duplicates. In the dental arena, practitioner duplicates are a very common problem. I recommend you read anything Linda Buquet has written about dental duplicates at her localsearchforum.com. You might also consider starting a thread there, as well as your one here, in hopes that she will turn her expert eyes on your case. Linda has more experience in Local SEO for dentists than any other pro I know.
I hope these will be a start.
