Importance of Links and Social

I am putting together a presentation for my managers about why link building and social media is important for SEO so that we can get more resources allocated to these areas.

Does anyone have advice/links of convincing arguments for me to include?

SEO:

• Do a search on Google for the products/services your company offers. Show your managers how potential buyers are finding your competitors and buying from them instead.
• Explain why SEO traffic can be such a powerful way to drive sales - because you get to present your company at the exact moment a potential buyer is looking for exactly what you have to offer!

Social Media:

• Present how you could use social media to promote content that would help position your company as an industry-thought leader.
• Present statistics showing how many people are using social media.
• Show how other companies in your industry are using social media to stay in touch with prospects, promote product specials, etc.

I would just like to add to simply gather numbers from your Google Analytics / Traffic / Refferal Traffic.

And focus on traffic from social media (Facebook mostly) to your site. Write the report about how much traffic was generated from your fan page or twitter account from the date you started your social media profiles. You should have an increase in the numbers overall...
