Does Archive pages help in indexation of the site?
-
Hello,
we have an argue internally regarding if we should keep the archive pages on a news site or not.
Pro
- Archive pages help indexation of the news. although not all of us are sure about this.
Con
-
archive pages receive from none to little traffic
-
archive pages are source of duplicate content, duplicate titles - which we can manage some how but does it worth?
What is your opinion on this topic, should we keep it or not?
thanks,
Irina

I think it's often considered to be good practice to keep archive pages (not only from a cralwer perspective but also as they could also be useful to an end user) but in order to avoid duplicate content just 'noindex, follow' the pages in the meta.

The duplicate content issue is more of a negative than a positive in regards to creating a larger indexation rate. If these are useful to the user and build the relevancy of your site structure and content, add the "noindex, follow"- like Chris Holgate said.
