SEO - is it site or page

Hi
When we're talking about SEO does the search engine only look at the whole site in general or do they look at the individual page when we're talking about SERP?
So if you have a keyword "my search term"
Does the search engine look at the site first or the page with the term on then rank you or is it the page then the site.

With the way that most search engine ranking factors work these days it would suggest that Google looks at your domain first.
Things like the general amount of backlinks going to your root domain have a massive impact on SERPs so that to me suggests it looks at your domain first.
It will obviously still look at the individual pages to determine which one is most relevant page for the specific keyword being searched but the fact that massive companies like WikiPedia and the likes will rank for almost every keyword says allot about the root domain having the big impact.

Hi,
Search engine will look at all the pages of containing search term 'my search term'. Please watch below video you will understand how it works.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,
It's usually a combination of both. The strength and relevance of the domain as a whole is important and usually, the search engines will measure this through a combination of links pointing at the domain and the overall quality of all pages on your website. For example, if you have 1000 pages and half of them are low quality, then that may affect the strength of the domain as a whole.
Generally, individual pages are what matters when it comes to specific keyword searches because the search engines want to provide the best result and a result is an individual page. So if your page is most relevant and best quality, it has a good chance of ranking for that keyword. However, if it's a competitive keyword (many are these days!) then the search engine will also look at the strength of the domain as a whole to see if it should rank your page.
I hope that helps and makes sense!
