Problem linking a new email address to an MCC/existing AdWords account

So I'm wondering if anyone has ever encountered this situation. We've called Google several times and not been able to fix it.
I have an MCC which has several AdWords campaigns linked to it. There are numerous users that have administrative access with this account, all with our company email addresses.
I have a new user I need to add, with the same company address.
When the user accepts the invitation and it takes them to a login page, it fails and says the account is linked to another MCC. And thus begins theis neverending cycle of this new MCC.
The rep from Google says this can't be fixed - the user can't be removed from this new, unused MCC, and even if the email address gets deleted, the same will eventuate.
We created a new gmail address with success, which creates great inconvenience when having to log in and out to access email and AdWords.
Surely there is a fix to this - we aren't even sure how this dummy MCC was created.
Any ideas?

We literally just figured this out (without the help of Google that is).
For anyone else that ever has this problem:

Create a new gmail account.

Add this account to the dummy MCC
-
Terminate access of the user you want to actually use

Add this user to the actual MCC
