Magento - How to avoid duplicate content on products that span different sites.
-
We have 4 Magento store fronts that operate out of the same backend. Is there any way to safely have products that span multiple stores without getting a duplicate content penalty?
thanks!

We have products that are sold on multiple sites. The best solution is to write unique product descriptions and title tags for each of them. That will prevent your sites from competing with one another in the SERPs because you optimize your title tags and descriptions for different keywords. We did this by creating separate items for each product/site.
That allows you to turn this "problem" into the opportunity to increase your keyword reach and sell to a more diverse audience.
Once you start doing this and paying attention to the SERPs and the traffic you might be surprised at how many sales you were missin'.

What if you take two existing sites, and merge them into the same magento install for example. But do what you suggest and have both sites run different product names, descriptions etc. So from the front end the user would know no different, but searching records you would see the two sites run on the same server, under the same install of magento?
