How valuable are citaitons/consistency (Moz Local) for a NON-local business?
-
I'm doing some research for non-local SEO clients and finding that many of them have messy and extremely inconsistent listing profiles (via Moz Local checker). It seems to me that this would be a good thing to take care of, even for a non local site.
Anyone have insights on whether or not this is something we should take care of? If so, any details on how or why it would or would not be a good idea?
Thanks!
Ricky

I'd put this in the worthwhile column. Google is trending towards standardization of things somewhat like this: mobile, pagespeed, facts -- so having outside data that universally agrees about a company's site, location, etc would further their standing in my opinion.
Another factor is that reviews and social presence might be not connecting up as well as possible if the associations above aren't being made.

Hi Ricky!
This may be a silly question from me, but if these aren't local businesses, why do they have citations? Can you provide further details on this.

Hi Miriam,
Essentially, I'm talking about a business claiming and setting up directory site profiles for the "corporate" office location. Is it worth building out and managing consistency of these listings on sites like Yelp, YP, Google, Bing, Facebook, Infogroup etc.? Is there still an SEO benefit to doing this for a non-locally focused business?
Thanks,

SEO is about building credibility and a positive reputation with your intended audience and search engines. I think having consistent name, address and phone number data (whether it's in the form of links or citations) across a variety of reputable platforms does that.
The sites you mention above are highly reputable, well respected and authoritative. It would be worthwhile going after those and ensuring accuracy and consistency whether your intent is to rank locally OR organically.
I say take care of it.

Hi Avin,
I'm really sorry that I did not see you had replied on this thread. Provided that you have face-to-face interactions
with customers at your corporate office, then yes, it would be worth it to build citations on the major platforms.
