Geotargeting on Home Page
-
I work on a website that have listings across the country. Is it possible for us to geotarget the home page of the website to cater to the person based on location so we can show the geogargeting links, articles, videos on the home page and direct the user in the right direction.
Forrent seem to be doing it: http://www.forrent.com/
Will this have any negative SEO impact or we can lose rankings ?

Yes, you can do this. Usually, sites use some kind of marketing automation software on their site to do this, looking for IP. I haven't done this myself, so I can't speak to all the details. Typically, you'd have bots go to some "neutral" page.

HI,
What Erica said is correct. You can use 3rd party services to help you with changing contents, links, images and etc. on the website based on many factors such as location, browser, technology and even behavior on the site. You can use Adobe, Qubit, Monetate and many many other services in this area.
Feel free to message me for more detail as I'm currently using one of these services.
Thank you!
