      Hi all,

Imagine if you will I was the owner of many domains, say 100 demographically rich kwd domains & my plan was to redirect these into one website - each into a different relevant subfolder.

      e.g.

      • www.dewsburytilers..com > www.brandname.com/dewsbury/tilers.html
      • www.hammersmith-tilers.com > www.brandname.com/hammersmith/tilers.html
      • www.tilers-horsforth.com > www.brandname.com/horsforth/tilers.html
      • another hundred or so 301 redirects...the backlinks to these domains were slim but relevant (the majority of the domains do not have any backlinks at all - can anyone see a problem with this practice?

If so, what would your recommendations be?

What is the reason for doing this? What are you wanting to achieve?

Imagine if you are Google - ask yourself "does this look natural to me?"

As a one-off site, then not much of a problem - but 100+ sites? Especially when you look at the sites themselves - as you say, all keyword rich. I can't imagine Google would look at this and consider it natural.

A fair icomment, just playing devils advocate - if all domains are owned by the same person and are of equal relevance - then isn't that saying to Google - hey hands up - I own these and I'm putting them into one web property like Google advises to do?

Has anyone seen/experienced or have any concrete evidence to suggest that this could be a good / bad idea?

            Fergclaw,

It may boil down to the quality of those slim back links you mentioned.  You call them relevant, but you don't attest to their quality. I think if you can honestly say that the few links you have are quality, editorial links, then redirecting those domains (not necessary the specific urls (for appearances sake)) to appropriate subdirectories on the new site could be a step towards keeping the whole thing under the filter threshold. As an additional appearances-sake step, you may choose not to redirect any of the other non-linked-to domians--I mean, what value is there in redirecting them, anyway?
