      HI there

      We have the following situation:

      www.client.com/home

at  /home we will have a iframe calling a subdomain

data.client.com . We need to use this structure because the server structure our client have.

      1. Is there any way i can index just www.client.com/home instead the subdomain, but include the data from the iframe to be indexed ?
      • saying that because if google shows up the subdomain page on the search results, it will not bring anything as we need /home to the iframe/subdomain to work. So, google should just index /home and the data from the subdomain, but not the subdomain itself. Does it make sense? If not, any recommendation how it should be setup?

      Appreciate any help.

        Hello

Over here you want to index your domain www.client.com/home in search result page not  data.client.com right? so one thing is possible disallow that URL in robots.txt if you doesn't want to index.  Other wise set rel="canonical"  ya 301 redirect to that URL so Google will automatically redirect that subdomain to main domain.

          Hi Sanket

Thanks for your kick response. However, I can't redirect the subdomain to the main domain because If i do so, when I call data.client.com from the iframe, it will basically enter in loop.

I still need to show the data.client.com inside /home through an iframe, so, i woud like if possible.

          1. Index the content from data.client.com as part of /home or index both but make sure /home gets indexed as the owner of this content.
          2. avoid google indexing individually data.client.com as a subdomain.

          Hope it's clear now.

          Thanks

            Hi

In that case you have to set re=" canonical" it is best solution of your problem so with that case Google will index both page but not individually gives preference

Assuming that you have no options (and I really hate to see anyone rely on iFrames in 2012, especially for the home-page - it's a recipe for problems), I agree with Sanket - you can put a rel-canonical tag on the sub-domain pointing back to the main URL. That should at least help Google consolidate the pages.

Unfortunately, it's very likely you're losing ranking value for the content in that frame. There are ways to host content on sub-domains, but mask/rewrite the URLs so that they look like they're part of the main domain. Load-balancing systems (with content across multiple IPs and sub-domains) do it all the time. Obviously, I don't know the details of your situation, but I'd strongly recommend looking for a more permanent solution. The canonical tag will be a bandage here, at best.
