Hi and welcome to the Moz Q&A forum,

In this case I would recommend that you don't go and buy an additional exact match domains for your SEO.

It's not that exact match domains are necessarily bad, but there has been some tweaking by Google against their effectiveness in the last couple of years. Your existing domain is a couple of years old, so that gives you some advantage over a new domain. As you have already invested in the site at this domain and are aiming to create good content for it, then I would recommend you continue to focus on improving your existing site. Just buying and pointing other keyword domains at this site will not be effective. Focussed pages on those keywords on your existing site will be more so.

If you haven't done so already, I would suggest you do some keyword research and check volumes for any suggestions you discover. Then build good content around those keywords. Remember that people search on Google for answers to questions or problems they may have. If you can answer those questions and provide helpful unique content then you have a good chance of ranking (especially for local searches) and getting traffic to your site.

        I hope that helps,
        Peter

          Hello Easigrassne,

The exact domain match is not a great strategy, although I've found it to still work. Perhaps you have heard that it's great shortcut. (it's not)

I would rather focus on keyword research, local citations analysis and opportunity discovery (that includes local business directories, partners, chamber of commerce, the good 'ol phone (asking for testimonials, referrals), etc).

And, I would optimize the blog (I noticed that is missing) and leverage social media to help spread the word. If you are new, it's somewhat easier to get started in social media vs. SEO, although both require content and keyword research and competitive thinking as strategic angles.

But before any of that - think about who your REAL audience is, unravel their demographics and speak to that in your copy and pages/content. Run some paid advertising to special offers from Facebook local as well.

Then, approach further by testing & offering special contests, giveaways, and allow people to share content from your blog. Don't be a "faceless" organization. Be & get personal. (read: helpful)

Make sure you have Google+ and all the local "places" set up in the search engines.

Hope that helps - writing fast now... dinner is served!

          Cheers, Jon

You may want to buy EMD's for the traffic that comes to them depending on the keyword and redirect them to your current site.
