      Hello,

We are joining 4 of our sites, into 1 big portal, and the content from each site gonna be inside this portal and sold as a package. We don't wanna kill these sites we are joining at this moment, we just wanna import their content into the new site and in a few months we will be killing them.

Is there a way to tell Google to not consider the content on these small sites, so the new site don't get penalised?

      Thanks,

You could try rel=canonical, telling Google which is the original or try 301/2 the pages.

        Hope this helps.

As Chris said, you can rel=canonical pages on the small sites to pages on the portal site--but only if they're identical.  If they're not identical you'll need a temporary (302) redirect will tell google that the page has been moved temporarily but that the new location shouldn't get any of the SEO value of the old page -- or permanent (301) redirect which tells google that the page has been moved and that Google should add the SEO value of the old page to that of the new page.

Be sure to read through these before you decide what to do.

          • To avoid the duplicate content issue I have created new urls for that specific site I am posting to and redirecting that url to the original on my site. Is this the right way to do it?
