I think you kind of end up with the same issue.

        1. Option 1 - you hack up WP so that you can use the /2013 directory - the advantage to this is that you do not have to change up your directory structure.  Generally speaking, if you can keep your URL structure the same when moving sites, you want to keep it the same.  Unless your structure is messed up, if it aint broke, dont change it.

        2. Option 2 - you change your directory structure so that you now have /healthinsurance-2013 and 301 redirect /2013 to that new folder.  You will still mess with the WP structure as now /2013 and other related archive WP URLs will need to have 301s in place to move people to the new directory.

Seems like either way you will need to do some significant tinkering with the site, and if you like your current directory structure.  I would talk to a WP consultant to look at this.  It may be that in either scenario you are messing with WP too much and have to look at other alternatives.

A separate thing to consider - with your EMD - would you really need to have your kw in the directory/filename as well?  When you have repeated KWs in the URL it looks kind of spammy.

        Good luck!

Thanks for your input. Thats the thing; 2 keywords in the url looks spammy I quess, im afraid for a downgrade on that.

          healthinsurance.net/healthinsurance-2013

I don't like using the date-based archives in Wordpress anyway so if it were me I'd hack WP so the /2013 directory is your currently ranking content, which would save you from having to do a redirect.

You can make the "slug" whatever you want in Wordpress so if you're concerned about repeating the keyword in the directory you could change it to healthinsurance.net/2013-insurance or healthinsurance.net/2013-info or whatever you prefer.

Yes, repeating the EMD keyword in the next directory can look a little spammy, but if this is really an example of the situation you're having I don't think this one instance would cause you any problems. I have seen much, much worse.
