      Hi

I have a main domain www.mywebsite.com with a 301 redirect to my languages in subfolder, so I have  many languages www.mywebsite.com/en (my default language), www.mywebsite.com/it, www.mywebsite.com/de ecc.

Which is best way to manage in Moz?

Months ago I inserted different campaigns for each country I want to invest for. For example USA: www.mywebsite.com, 3 competitors on google.com and all english keywords; Italy: 3 competitors on google.it and all my italian keywords. I selected subdomain and insert always "www.mywebsite.com",  nor Root domain nor Subfolder. So I thought, I have my all rankings if for example I rank for a uk keyword with a website page in italian subfolder...

So differences between my campaigns are just keywords and competitors, not domain names, because I insert subdomain typology and "www.mywebsite.com" for all of them.

Is it correct or it's better to insert in Moz www.mywebsite.com/en for US and UK campaign, www.mywebsite.com/it for italian campaign ecc? And select "subfolder" in spite of "subdomain" in typhology? Infact in this way maybe I could have more informations about Moz rank for my subfolder. Or not? Is it better that I change my management in this way?

      Thanks

          Hey Penny,

Great question! It actually sounds like you've set up the campaigns correctly for the information you are looking for. If you were to create a subfolder campaign for www.mywebsite.com/en, but www.mywebsite.com/it/product_example is ranking in Google US for the English keyword Product Example, you would not get a ranking reported for that page because our system will only be looking for URLs that include the /en subfolder and it will disregard the URL with the /it subfolder from the campaign. Since it sounds like you have some cross-language rankings, it would probably be more beneficial to leave the campaigns as they are so that you get data for all of the language subfolders regardless of which search engine they are ranking in.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Ok thanks Chiaryn Moz Rank and Moz Trust? I will have the same informations for all campaigns, where I could have moz rank, moz trust specific for each language home page. On page optimization and link analysis could bee more ordinated too, if they are associated to a single language, for example /en/.

Now I'm thinking to insert a unique root campaign, url www.mywebsite.com, Root domain as tipology, used to analyze general informations about my website, not for specific keywords ranking. Then I could create more "Subfolder" campaigns /en/, /it/, /de/ etc. which I could use mostly to specific rank analysis in a local search engine, but eventually for other informations too (link analysis for the specific subfolder for example could be interesting...).

            What do you think?

Thanks for following up. MozRank and MozTrust are actually only based on root domain and subdomain link metrics, so the way you set up the campaign wouldn't affect the metrics you are seeing for MozRank and MozTrust. We don't track MozRank or MozTrust at the subfolder level.

Ok, anyway don't u think that a general "root" campaign with other "subfolder" camapigns could be a solutions to have an order management of the situation?

Do you think it's better to have more "subdomain" campaigns one for each language?

Or one "root" campaign and more "subdomain" campaigns?

Advantages and Disadvantages of the three solutions?

                Thanks!

Unfortunately, I'm not an SEO or a marketing strategist, so I can't really say which option would be the best for your current SEO strategy. I can, however, explain the difference between the solutions you posed.

The first solution of tracking a root domain and a subdomain would give you data on any page your domain so that you can see all of the pages that are ranking for the keywords you are tracking, which would be good if you aren't certain which language is in the rankings or if more than one language is in the rankings. You could then track specific languages with subfolder campaigns it you want to make sure that you are optimizing specific language pages for specific keywords.

If you prefer to just focus on the specific languages and how the hold up against one specific set of keywords, then you should use only subfolder campaigns for the individual languages. You would want to create subfolder campaigns, without the additional root domain campaign, if you weren't concerned about seeing data for all of the pages on the site in one campaign.

In regard to subdomains, all of your language subfolders would be on the same subdomain, since all of the pages are hosted on the www subdomain of your site and that wouldn't give you anymore specific information that a root domain campaign (which tracks any other subdomain you may have, as well).

                  I hope this helps.

                  Chiaryn

You have different language web properties targeting different geolocations. One tool you could explore in Google Webmaster tools is the geographic target in your site settings. If you choose to use subdomains over subfolders, you can choose to target a specific country for each language as a subdomain.
