I am currently trying to find all of our bad backlinks and have run seomoz, webmaster tools, link research tools, ahrefs and majestic yet I am still getting weekly updates from link research tools that show links that were done in 2011 – 2012.

What can I do if Google is seeing links from 2011 – 2012 which I cannot clean up.

        Hi Bob

When you see these links, do you mean you're seeing them in your WMT report?

If you have had the links physically removed, your report should update once that page with the ex-link has been re-crawled and re-cached.  That could take from 2 days to 2 weeks.

In addition, the WMT report has always been notoriously slow to update and it has very often (for me) shown links that have been removed on pages that I know have been cached over and over as still showing in my report.

The key thing to remember is that the report is an indication of what the algorithm is seeing and using to calculate your site.  It's not always accurate, but if you've had the link taken down and the page has been cached you can be pretty sure that Google has taken note of it.

Alternatively, if you've disavowed the links and not removed them, the WMT report, along with other 3rd party reports, will show the links as live until they are physically removed.  Again, so long as the disavow file has been uploaded correctly with those URLs and has been processed (which usually takes a couple of days), Google will have discounted them.

        Hope this helps.

But the problem is that one or two of my tools are sending me domains that are not in any of the tools seomoz, webmaster tools, link research tools, ahrefs and majestic.

So how do I do a full clean up when none of these tools have the full scope of links we have (some of the links date back to 2011 - 2012)?

There is no such thing as a full clean up

You try your best and prove to Google that you have tried your best by keeping detailed notes that you show them when you do a reconsideration request
