How many google+ authors is too many?

I've worked with a few sites with multiple google+ authors. rel=author works well and have no complaints.

If you have a site with user generated content, would Google ever accept rel=author for every user we have a Google+ account for?

Is 100 too many? 1000? 10,000?

Anyone with big sites out there care to share your experience?

It might likely play out sorta the way links do--deep content/less linked-to content/old content equals less-crawled content.  Maybe you could have 1,000,000 authors on a site but the ones that derive the most value from it are the most recent, the ones on the most active pages, the ones on the most linked-to pages.
