I have a question about duplicate content. We have our mission statement on our home page, a few paragraphs.

When I searched Copyscape the only pages that came back were sites like Google Plus, Manta, Linkedin, AngieLists ect. All of them have the same exact copy.

Would this be something that is hurting us for duplicate content??
It is our mission statement so we kind of want to be the same across those sites.

      Any input would be great.

      Thanks,

      Scott

        Hi Scott,

I would not worry about that being considered duplicate content. Is it duplicate? Yes - however you are listing your mission in business directories, so some duplicate content is assumed.

When Google indexes, it can easily determine where the duplicate content originated and gives complete credit to that source... in this case, your homepage.

You can even Google: "seomoz is the world's most popular provider of seo software" and see that this same paragraph is listed on LinkedIn, CrunchBase, VendorStack, StartupGenome, etc.

These business directories are all reputable, so I would not worry about it. If you do see random webpages or your own webpages duplicating your content, then you should be more concerned about fixing that.

        Hope this helps.

        Mike

My site has been archiving our newsletters since 2001. And our site visitors can search a database for ideas from those newsletters. ( There are hundreds of pages with similar titles: archive1-Jan2000, archive2-feb2000, archive3-mar2000, etc.)

I see they are being marked as "similar content." However, the actual page content is not the same. Could this adversely affect SEO? And if so, how can I correct it?

Would a separate folder of archived pages with a "nofollow robot" solve this issue? Would my site visitors still be able to search within the site with a nofollow robot?
