Too many outbound links on a page?
-
We have a "Clients" page on our site with approximately 125 of our clients listed. We have a link to each client's website, so that's 125 links. I am rethinking this approach. Is there any value to having these outbound links?
The SEOmoz PRO analysis tells me I have too many links on this page. I have read that more than 100 links on a page is too many, but that seemed to be referring to internal links.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

SEOMoz might be telling you about Internal Links. And this might be a warning. Again, I understand the value of these links to potential clients. What you can do is nofollow these links so if there are any clients you are linking to which may have bad links to themselves, and get penalized, you don't want to be another one of those links linking to that site.
Nofollow'ing all those 125 links should do the trick. Also, SEOMoz Crawl Report for the number of outgoing links is more of a warning. I hope this helps.

Thank you very much, Nakul. Do you think there is an SEO value to our having these outbound links on our page?

The SEO value is to the people you are linking to. Not to your website. To your website, the value is in having these sites/links available for your potential customers so that they can check your actual work / portfolio if they are considering to hire you for your services.

Thank you, Nakul!

Do you want the "clients" page to rank/pass rank back to your clients? I don't think there's much value in a page of outbound links for rankings, but It shouldn't hurt you - as long as its just one page to a site of real content.
A list of clients can be valuable for visitors though like was said - establishing credibility, etc. Keep the page for visitors but don't count on it mattering much to search engines or passing rank.

Thank you, Colin. No, I don't care about passing rank to the clients. Yes, the rest of the site is real content.
I appreciate your thoughts!
