      Hi Guys,

Here is a thought. Google gives more weight to links in content, less to navigation etc.. Therefore if they say give 50% of a pages rank to a link within content and 50% to the the other elements. What happens to the total pagerank from a page if you have not utilized in page content links? (is it lost)

If this is the case, and you have a site that does not use content links on every page, are you loosing value (and hard earned) pagerank.  Google did mention sometime back about pagerank being exstinguished  with the nofollow tag.

I would be interested to hear what others think?

      Cheers

      Scott

I think that there is a difference between "pagerank" and the "ranking weight" given to different types of links.

About ten years ago everybody use tools like this to calculate how their navigation and in-content links distributed pagerank through their site.  If you have not used one of these you don't understand pagerank.

Maybe I dont understand what you are saying, but the pagerank calculator really supports my question. It is treating every OBL on the page equally as it tries to work out where the rank (or whatever) flows to within the linked structure.

Yet, greater than 98 out of 100 SEOs will gladly state that a link from within the content of a page is more valuable than a footer, header, menu etc... types of links. It still makes me think that there might be say X value to be obtained from links off a page, but the current links may only be extracting 75% of X. Hence value from links of a page may be being lost.
