I know that this question has been asked in the past, and that website.com/blog is better for seo purposes than blog.website.com. We want to setup a custom blog on our site, using Wordpress. Our designers/host are telling us that buy using website.com/blog can causes issues b/c Wordpress is open source, and our site could be hacked? Is there anything we should do about this? Any suggestions?

      Any Advice appreciated!!!

      Thanks!

There are plugins to get around this issue such as VaultPress. No installation is 100% hack-proof - I'd ask your designers for instances where website.com/blog got hacked - because if your website is very popular and you are concerned about hacking, you should go with a more secure CMS like Drupal or an enterprise content management system.

Let me know if this helps.

There is always a risk your site might be hacked, but that risk is present for both open source and in-house software.

For Wordpress in particular, it is best to make sure your installation is up-to-date with the latest release each time they provide an update. In fact, Google itself will provide a message in your Google Webmaster Tools if it notices your site is behind on releases.

Are your designers/host in-house? If the risk is too great for them, perhaps they can serve your blog content from a different server.

If your designers/host are not in-house, they may be telling you this because of their own limitations whatever they may be.

My suggestion would be to ask for more information. Why is the risk high for your website? Can the blog content be hosted on a separate server to alleviate the concern?

          • To avoid the duplicate content issue I have created new urls for that specific site I am posting to and redirecting that url to the original on my site. Is this the right way to do it?
