Hi Jean, From the sounds of it, you're absolutely on the right track. What you're describing is the definition of good information architecture, where your site is divided into broad categories (Menopause, Fertility, Osteoporosis, etc), each with relevant sub-categories (Menopause Treatment, Fertility Treatment, Osteoporosis Treatment, etc), and finally the posts that address each topic at the most granular level.

That progression from general topic >> sub-topic >> specific posts satisfies the #1 requirement, which is that human visitors will find it easy to understand and navigate. As an added bonus, this kind of IA is also very easy for engines to crawl and "understand". It should keep any given blog post accessible within 3 clicks of the home page, which is ideal for the flow of link authority, which will ultimately drive indexation and ranking, and allow you to earn organic search traffic. Hope that helps!

That has made me feel so much better about what I am doing and has sent the silly gremlin packing from my head.

As a newbie to SEO I have been reading lots of the info on this site and this idea came to me as a sort of digestion of what I read and what I felt would be good for my site. It is great to be able to ask a question and get the thoughts and opinions of those who are more expert than I when not certain if doing something will help or hinder progress.

Many thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

          Jean
