For a new site, I want to feed in Twitter updates and Facebook posts onto the page. I regularly update these feeds. I'm using PHP to directly integrate with the two sites API and grab the data. Is this a good idea? Will it help SEO as its fresh content? Is it a good or bad idea to have a social media feed page on the site that grabs content from these sites?

Yes I've seen results suggesting that social media represents 5 to 10% of your search engine rankings if you're particularly liked. But the bigger question is not are you producing or social results just because you want to influence your rankings. If you are genuinely behind a product that you're selling you'll enjoy the social into reaction because it becomes a individual personal representation of your product. And if you think about links, the most powerful links will always be from websites that you like to form

some relationship with. Quality websites, quality content, quality relationships, quality results. Have a look at me, Mr Google 🙂

This method does not hurt nor boost your SEO directly but is a great feature for the actual users on your site. This is a great way to promote your posts on your site and inform your audience of your social media accounts. It also gives them a taste of what you are doing on social media.

So while it will not directly affect your rankings, it can bring you more "likes" and "followers" that will see your posts on social media - driving more return traffic to your site and more chances to obtain links and shares.
