Domain Name Registration - 3 Options - which one?
-
Hello SEOZ

I'm thinking about registering a domain for a project, the Keyword I want to rank for consists of two words. Somethink like this: "joomla training"
But the domain I want to register f.e. joomla-training.com ist registered already.
I have 3 options that I consider, what's the best?
- Register another TD: joomla-training**.net** instead of .com
- Ad a letter : joomla-trainings.net
- Switch words: training-joomla.com
- Write the Keywords without a hypen: joomlatraining.com
What should I do now? Thanks for your help

For starters i would ask myself the question where are your visitors coming from? If they come from international websites you might consider the .com version of the domain name.
Since some time .net will also rank and intent a good company (wasn't always so). My personal experience with this is that you should choose the most natural version of the domain name. Why? Because visitors should be able to easily remember it and share it. So in your example joomla-trainings.com might be remembered as joomla-training.com and then you will loose your visitors.
If it were me that had to make this choice i guess i would go for the joomla-training.net or the training-joomla.com but never would i add a letter as a difference from a direct competitor.
kind regards

Thank you for your answer, but my concern is more how Google would react to my decision, not the people...
I forgot there is fourth option: joomlatraining.com - write bot keywords together...

if that also is an option i would choose that one: joomlatraining.com
URL's with seperated words by a minus sign (if you use to many minus signs) might be interpreted as keyword spamming.
i think that would be the most obvious one.
