I write a monthly Social Media Marketing column for a local Business Journal and the column is printed in their paper as well as posted on their website. Is there any way I can repost these articles on my website's blog without being penalized by Google for "duplicate content"?

You won't be penalized for publishing someone else's content on your site, however if it's published elsewhere first, your site probably won't get as much value for it. You'll always be in a fight with the other version for which one is seen as the original, and there's a good chance you'll lose against a local publication with a more authoritative website.

Ideally when I republish content from one source or another I'll partially quote the original article and then link to it. If I have to republish the whole thing, I'll start with a credit, such as "This article is republished from the original at LocaBusinessJournal.com/article-url/"

You won’t be penalized for using someone else’s content on your website but it is always ethical to let people know about the original resource of content may be in the form of a link at the end of the post.

Hi Victoria - I'd agree with Kane. You won't be penalised but you probably won't get much value for these pages. It's a good idea to link to the original publisher to be on the safe side.
