I am taking over for the previous marketing director and our company already has a Google+ page, but I think it's set up like we are an individual.

It seems like creating a business page works the same way as Facebook, where you have to create a page under a preexisting account. The annoying thing is that just about every business in existence that has a website already has a Google account, whether it be for analytics, AdWords, or Webmaster Tools.

So, what, do I have to create two Google+ pages, one that is the actual business page, and one just as a placeholder as the owner of the page? I don't get it! And I cannot find anything online that discusses this!

Correct, It is much like Facebook in there Are "Admins" who are people who administer the Page. Until recently you could only have 1 (one) admin. But now you can have multiple.

So, what, do I have to create two Google+ pages, one that is the actual business page, and one just as a placeholder as the owner of the page.

Not sure I understand the Question**,** but if you are saying you need to have a Google+ account that is a "Person" or Profile, who then sets up the Page, you are correct. You Must Have a Google+ "Profile" to create a Business Page.

So the preexisting Google account is already for my business and under the business name, because we use it for AdWords, ect. So should I just leave that G+ profile blank and create a business page under it?

You can, but Keep in mind just because you have an account, does not mean it automatically has a Google+ Profile associated with it.

I believe anytime from a month ago, or so on, every person who created a new Google Account, no matter for what product line is set up with a Google+ account, which was previously known as Google Profiles.

I would just pick a Google Account (It seems like you have more than one)

And make that the designated "Personality" who will then set up the Page and Manage it. There are many other items to keep in mind like Authorship rich snippets, So without knowing your exact situation. I would be in bad form to give you a plan of attack other than you need a Personal Google+ page (profile) who then sets up a Business Page, as there is a specific strategy to Google+ for utilizing all of its benefits large and small.

            hope this helps,

you can PM me your Current Google+ Profile pages and I can attempt to get a clearer picture

            w00t!

            Shane

You are correct this is incorrect...

This is a Profile, so actually in violation of Google+ Terms since it is a Brand/Business.

                Here is my suggestion....

Turn this into the "Company Spokesperson" example Head of PR, Executive or even you as the Head of Web and Marketing.

                THEN

As this NOT NEWLY CREATED PAGE, but just modified to be a "Person" page.... Create a Google+ Business Page

(Make sure you are signed in as this account and)

                Go to

                http://www.google.com/+/business/

And follow the on page instructions to create a "Business Page"

                Hope this helps
