Blog and Website = 2 different URL's - Is it WORTH to merge content on to one site
-
Good day Mozzers!
A friend of mine recently asked for my help in regards to online marketing. While getting familiar with his online presence, I realized that he has a blog hosted under a completely different URL
Main Site = http://pardons.org/ (page rank 4)
Blog = http://pardons.wordpress.com/ (page rank 3)What I am battling with is whether or not he should take all of the blog content he has, and merge it on to his main site. It has over 280+ blog posts spanning over a few years, so there is A LOT of content that could benefit his main site.
However is it worth it, or should he continue to run everything as 2 different sites? Also, of you suggest moving the content over, what would be the best way to do it in your opinion?
He currently has links on his blog TO his main site, so there is a little bit of link juice there, but with a average of 300 views a day, he only get about 10 clicks to his main site from the blog.
Thanks a ton for your help!

put everything onto one site (yours)
and pardons.org/blog
this will make your site bigger.
Either redirect or delete that old blog on WP.

If I delete the WP blog and move the content to the main website, would google consider it as duplicate content?

Hi Jayson!
WordPress actually has a solution for this now - site redirect - the only requirement really is that the new site has the same permalink structure as the old site. And I think it costs $12 a year. But that's nothing really.
So, I would recommend combining the sites into one, using the WordPress site redirect to manage getting the old blog redirected over to the new one, which will sit probably in a subfolder http://pardons.org/blog/
To handle the transfer of the actual content, you can use WordPress Transfer
I would always advice utilizing existing content whenever possible, never get rid of it unless its just too difficult to move over or its low quality.
Hopefully that gets you in the right direction!

If you use wordpress redirect and transfer (above in my answer) you should avoid any duplicate content issues.

Thanks SO much for your answer Dan. Doing this should help with the main sites SEO correct?

Yes, assuming all else is good - theoretically it will help the SEO because you'll have more content on the site.
And its not only SEO - think of user experience and that's usually synonymous with "good SEO" nowadays... the USER will have a better experience with everything under one roof too
