      Hey,

I've read that adding the company name to the title tag was a waste of space since the more words the less weight each one has, with all this over optimization preventive measures, should I rewrite the title tags format with company names? and if so should it be

      • (company name): (naturally organized keywords)
      • (naturally organized keyword) | (Company name).
      • or can I keep it just naturally organized keywords

Also I used to do (keyphrase) - (keyphrase) instead of commas, should I fix this?

I asked this question on Randy's post http://www.seomoz.org/blog/6-changes-every-seo-should-make-before-the-over-optimization-penalty-hits-whiteboard-friday but didn't really get an answer.

      Thanks!

I think the middle option is the way to go. Both people and search engines love brands, and option number three doesn't give your brand much exposure.

Having too many words in your title just dilutes them, keep it short but natural, always start with your keyword as the first word hold the most power and so on.

In response to this latest answer, please see : http://www.seomoz.org/q/optimize-page-title-advice <---- post i created last week about optimizing page titles.

I was told, in that post that adding more content to the title will not dilute the keyword i'm trying to rank for.... so, which is it?

            thanks

              try this link

              http://www.seomoz.org/q/title-elements-too-long-good-for-seo

The reason this is so, is to combat keyword stuffing

                Alan,

For my site, which do you think is the better title for part number QUS220? :

                A) QUS220 - Plastic Bins

                or

                B) QUS220 Plastic Bins - Stackable - 7x4x3 - Black

                Thanks

i would start with Plastic bings as you are bount to rank for QUS220 anyhow,

i would go with Plastic Bins Black 7x4x3

And put the rest in the description.

I would only put the black and 7x4x3 in to make it unique.

But i have 4000 products similar to that one (just diff models)...

You're saying to start everyone of their page titles with the word "Plastic Bins" instead of the part number?

Yes, no one is going to search for the part number, you will rank for the part number anyhow,  so why use the very best place in the site for a term you are going to rabnk for anyhow.

Plastics bins is the term you need to compete for, put that right at the begining of your title.
