A tool for notifying when your site is down
-
What tool would you recommend to notify you when your site goes down?
I've recently had issues with a bad host - servers go down sporadically.
-
Pingdom

We Use http://www.monitor.us/
Have used it since before going to dedicated. Had issues with host that has Race Car lady...... Started using them to tell us when any site went down.
Have free and paid service.

Don't trust a flaky host with your hard work. Get a new one.

If it was as easy as that – trust me, it would've been done by now. The company I work for is locked in.

Divide your average daily sales by 24 and then multiply that by the number of down hours the host gives you in a month (they probably should be paying you to host there).
Also consider what google bot is thinking when he comes visiting and your site is down - or he gets kicked off in the middle of a crawl. If your rankings get demoted just one position you could lose a lot of money.
And, visitors cussing about your unreliable site. They think you are the reason it is down, not some flaky host.
Finally... if they don't know how to run a hosting service their servers are probably the targets of hackers, and they are doing other things that can damage your online presence.

I use: http://www.aboutmyip.com - it's free and has been reliable.

+1 for Pingdom. Even the free stuff is great.

EGOL
I am getting tired of thumbing you up.....

Read a post by Will Critchlow which mentioned Server Density so I've been using them for a couple of months and must say I really like it!
Response times are based on loading whole page not just header - as we know, an important element for SEO.
Really great guys and the MD, David Mytton, has been really helpful.
They have an iPhone App which is great for monitoring....or for just being a complete geek

Also 7 day trial, so nothing to lose.
