        Yes this can and should be done in .htaccess file. You can use a tool like Screaming Frog to help you keep track of all the urls you're changing and it gives you the status codes of each. You can download it here: http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/

          I hate to burst your bubble, but I don't see that URL string as being that much more SEO friendly. Granted you are getting the benefit of the "name" in there, but there must be  a better way.  I am not a code monkey so I don't know exactly how the URL rewrites are done, but it appears that your site is already dynamic therefore you should be to produce a much cleaner url. I hired a programmer to do this for me. I'd go for something more like this:

          http://www.tfsupplements.com/store/product-name.html

          or

          http://www.tfsupplements.com/product-name/
