Setting up, building links to keyword rich domains and 301 - good strategy?

This was spoken about at #searchlove in London this week by Patrick from Branded3 talked about how exact match domains are having a resurgence. Its something I would and am considering as I am sitting on some valuable keyword rich domain names myself.

301's leak link juice and it is not clear if relevance passes though a 301, relevance is a big part of linkng,

Why not just build the link to your own site?

if you are talking about organic links, well you may be waiting a long time.
