I wrote a recent blog post on Friday. It was indexed and ranked on the first page on Monday. On Wednesday, it was nowhere to be found. I noticed that, after a few more recent posts, it was on page two of my blog. So I expanded my results so that it was back on my first page. Today, it is back on the first page - same spot as before. Was that my problem, or could it be something else I am unaware of?

I think this is just a typical "google dance". It's testing how the searchers react to your content, and is deciding where to put it in SERPs. This happens with new pages all the time. (We manage over 500 websites so I know this from experience.) Did you build any backlinks to these content pages in the meantime?

New pages often hit the SERPs quickly and rank at a higher level than expected.   Some SEOs call this the "new page bonus ranking".  Those pages often fall to a more deserved ranking within a few days.

Also, some new pages will appear in the SERPs, disappear for a day or two and then return at a lower ranking.

Yes I did, thank you for the information. I had a feeling that could be it but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything.
