  • We have the same issue with our site HelloCoin, its pure ajax/javascript so we make a second no javascript version for every page for googlebot to crawl it, we just make it as much as possible similar to the original (user version). Just don't hide anything and show everything as it is, some functionality might not work but its not an issue, google just want to see how it looks for the user not how it works.

  • I wanted to expand on what I said earlier as I feel I may have missed the nuance of the question. If the purpose of the rollover text is to enhance the user experience, then in that sense it not only is good for user but also 100% safe from an SEO perspective. Examples; tabbed content (product reviews, specs, manufacturer info ect.), or expanding images and displaying some captions. The purpose of these sorts of things are to specifically add to the user experience and give them as much information as possible. My first response I focused on more of what was said then what was meant. My original post still stands if the purpose of the rollover text is specifically designed only to make search engines rank you higher.

  • I would milk the sister domains, but don't wait for a ban. Work out a way to avoid the duplicate content flag by either linking to the original content, or by using unique content. It will take much more time and effort, but worth it if you want to maintain the traffic coming from those sites. Greg

  • Well Mary, I took my eye off the ball last year. So I didnt really notice but year on year graphs through analytic show the drop around end April. Almost 60% drop in traffic and rankings from #1 to 60 Up until that point I had more than enough work, i spread myself thin to earn the money being self employed, and never really checked my work. However the EMD finally finished me off. Apart from being annoyed with myself, the Google WMT  forums (are they G employees?) were so damn rude and ignorant. Apparently I shouldnt be in business have such a spam site! I have more than enough happy clients to counter that. Funny how the business I got through G SERPS actually turned those clients into Adwords clients through me? Another annoying feature is all this so called seo`s who couldnt rank above me, now claiming they are experts....basically as they never had the nous to use anchor text.......they never knew the Penguin update was coming as nobody did. Lucky. Im like lots of people basically being punished for doing what everybody did. Now we are pariahs. EVERYBODY chased backlinks and anchor text.  My only saviour is Bing and Yahoo and by looks of it Adwords. However is Penguin a penalty? I assumed it was an algo change not a penalty, so effectively those links arent worth nada, zilch, zero. I can remove them, the bulk....change some to urls etc. Im probably ranking where a site with no backlink structure would rank. However the over optimisation of my footer links wasnt planned as a lever for rankings. Im thinking about a rebrand and of course url and branding links are the order of the day and the emphasis on content more than ever. But I dont really want to lose my domain age even if i can redirect 301 the whole caboodle to a new url.

  • Off page pretty much equals link building, and long term you want to think about branding and building relationships with other webmasters in your niche. Here's a great list of link building strategies: http://pointblankseo.com/link-building-strategies

  • Ok here's the thing... QUALITY content building, and I mean really high quality, will generate buzz on its own. The trick is to get content (including videos, images, etc.) to go viral, with links included. Naturally people will share it, retweet it and links will build naturally. They obviously have a large team and a large budget, and likely have people working on quality, shareable, viral content. News sites can easily get that many links, as people are always linking to their stories. So no its not impossible, it's just a matter of working smart and not hard. Can you give us the link so we can take a look at the site?

  • I agree, low competition and probably low search volume. Do some SEO for it and you'll be up there in no time!

  • Would you think I should also use the google disavow links tool?

  • Thanks - we do have a separate campaign for the sub-domain specifically and it does not indicate duplicate pages as a concern.  They aren't 100% the same, but certainly over 90% if not more like 95-98%

  • I don't know what Roger says, but I believe that followed links on noindex pages will pass PageRank, anchor text and other link benefits. Your instructions are to "no index" but the page will still be crawled.

  • "in a case like this is it sensible to preemptively remove the links with the disavow tool?" Once again, the Disavow tool was offered as a last resort by Google. Many webmasters seem frustrated the tool is not working as they expected, and the issue is typically they ignored Google's instructions for the tool's usage. Prior to using the Disavow tool, you need to make an exhaustive effort to remove the links. Send a polite letter to the WHOIS address for the domain explaining the problem and identifying specific links from that domain which are pointing to your site. If there is no response within 3 days, send the same letter to an email address found on the site itself. If you still do not receive a response, check for a Contact Form on the site. Try to learn what is going on with the site. Ask site owners how these links were created. It surely can be the result of negative SEO, but in the overwhelming majority of cases I have worked with, it is either the client or an agent acting on behalf of the client. Try digging a little deeper.

  • I just noticed that your site lost about 700 backlinks in 14 days. I feel that this didn't help much. Have a great day.

  • I would imagine the reason they are still showing up is a combination of the sites not being crawled often or deep enough and the delay on the  updating of the links tools. You could try getting the sites that used to link to you but no longer do re-crawled especially the pages that used to have your links on. I believe this should see a refreshing of the links tools in time. I hope this helps Sean

  • Thank you for your response, I have had no warnings of Google at all, Which confuses me more, I havent done any of these back links there are 100's all pointing to low quality sites. Its crazy if i havent added these and google havent warned me then how can this be, My rankings have took a huge turn for the worst and my site www.finaldutis.co.uk isnt even ranking for the keywords Probate (we was on page 1 number 7) I have lost nearly all my good traffic keywords, I have cleaned the site taken out any old school seo. Made sure we have no duplicate content and still my rankings are being killed off one by one, I couldnt understand why?? When i looked into recent backlinks in webmasters I nearly chocked ! I havent added 90% of them, I use no link building software, NOTHING.. If i do links ther are manuel. If I have no warnings from Google then what do i do?? I am unsure if I have been hit can you please help, I have literally no traffic to my site now and I really dont know how i can go from 150 plus page 1 keywords long and short no nearly nothing.. I use no blak hat and even if the peguin hit me would it have removed the main keywords Probate completely leaving us behind sites that are not even probate related? Kind Regards Elissa Hayes
