Using a 302 redirect for language variants. How should I use the canonical?
Hello, okay so if you were going to set a canonical I'd set it on DE as you're redirecting the traffic to that page anyway. The schema You can declare the language and to a degree target country using markup which can aid in understanding of your site with search engines etc. Sorry just saw the edit, yes i can image structuring your site that way will do the job too and avoid the whole issue. Hope that helps. Seems like you some what resolved it your self

Www to non-www redirect without loop still necessary?
Yes, adding both www and non-www to Google Search Console is absolutely best practice to ensure you aren't presenting duplicate content. It's also the first recommended step in your check list after you've verified your property within GSC (which suggests it's pretty important). Here's what Google say about this: You may need to verify ownership of both the www and non-www versions of your domain. Because setting a preferred domain impacts both crawling and indexing, we need to ensure that you own both versions. Typically, both versions point to the same physical location, but this is not always the case. Generally, once you have verified one version of the domain, we can easily verify the other using the original verification method. However, if you've removed the file, meta tag, or DNS record, you'll need to repeat the verification steps. Note: Once you've set your preferred domain, you may want to use a 301 redirect to redirect traffic from your non-preferred domain, so that other search engines and visitors know which version you prefer. I hope that helps.

Homepage is deindexed in Google
Glad you found the culprit. I was going to mention that this was probably it. If Googlebot sees noindex anywhere on the page it can cause the whole page to be deindexed. Sometimes it's really tricky to find as well.

Stuck with canonical URL - main site vs categorys?
Before you get in a muddle as your self this: Are the giving value? If they are service a purpose and their is a variation that does the same and users are finding them helpful why not! If they are just PPC landing pages with variations yes a canonical maybe helpful. Mostly it will come do to how much value do they give to your user? Obviously there is an expectation and if they're are literally the same but (e.g.) with a different colour font then ignore this question! There is a lot of duplicate content on the internet so it's not the worst problem to have, i hope that i've at least helped give a bit of relief! All the best.

Canonical vs 301 for index.php
The safest and quickest option would be the 301 redirect. For the cases when that can't be done, there is the canonical option. And of course, make sure that index.php is out of the sitemap. Hope it helps. GR.

Should I reverse renaming of a page that lost value?
Redirects are a funny old thing, and a source of much frustration for many. I asked John Mueller about this last year and his response was basically, "be patient". There are occasions where a reversed redirect can see an almost immediate change, then other times it seemingly never happens - in the long run, it probably will though. Just don't go changing back and forth too quickly because this is likely to cause you extra headaches. -Andy

Lower Level Pages Being Ranked for Key Terms
Thanks very much for your reply I think in the past we had scaled back on our exact match anchor text in the internal links based on advice from an Seo agency we had worked. Whereas before we would have had a list of links in a box on the homepage to our most popular options saying for instance Hotel in Spain, Hotel in Gibraltar etc. This was changed to have the heading of the box as Hotels and the link anchor texts changed to the location Spain, Gibraltar So I'm guessing the agency overreacted to the issue of exact match anchor text for external links and didn't need to apply it to the internal structure

Are subdomains a good seo strategy for a multistore e-commerce?
I'd go with www.mybrand.com/store/category1/subcateory www.mybrand.com/store/category2/subcateory www.mybrand.com/store/category3/subcateory ...this keeps everything neatly organized for both SEO and the UX (not to mention your content management). I've been building professional ecommerce websites for 12 years. Fred

I run a profitable ( kind of ) adult VR website that is indexed and ranking very well, but on the video tab of both google and bing I don't have a single video. Why? How can I fix this?
If your website isn't indexed, you'll want to try a few things first. Check your robots.txt file, make sure you haven't blocked bots. A lot of webmasters get it wrong when they set up that file by copying the file they used for their staging environment. Next make sure you have a dynamic .xml sitemap and check to make sure it has been submitted to Google on google search console. These are the first two things you should check. If it's neither of those let me know and I'll provide some other methods of diagnosing the issue. Adult websites get filtered from most queries. Google sets a high bar for these types of videos to show up in search in terms of how explicit a person has to be to find it, so don't be surprised if it takes some time to gain traction after you've managed to get the site indexed.

My website is abnormally being ranked on google
I'm a bit curious, it sounds like you haven't redirected the old site to the new one? If you have, have you performed a change of address in Google Search Console? And lastly, are there language differences between your .fr and .com sites? Have you set up your hreflang tags on one and not the other? All else being equal, if you have two sites and one is optimized for a french audience via hreflang tags and a .fr domain, it would not shock me at all to see that Google is displaying one over the other on google.fr. Also consider that your french users could be clicking on the .fr site and boosting its ranking that way, causing Google to consider your old domain a more relevant source of information for your audience. I very much doubt your competitor is affecting your ranking. If anyone could bowl sites on Google with that kind of cheap tactic they wouldn't have a working search engine in today's day and age. More likely your competitor is harming his own rankings. Switching hosts will do nothing. Stick with GoDaddy and save yourself the trouble and expense.

Why would Google not index all submitted pages?
Did you submit a nested xml sitemap? What you could do is segment your sitemaps based on categories then you could see if there are: no index tags, robots.txt blocking a section or maybe those pages are too deep. For now I would check to see if anything has a no index tag and review your robots.txt file. Hope that helps some.

Duplicate content: using the robots meta tag in conjunction with the canonical tag?
Hey there, Try to avoid using both canonical and noindex, it is not advised (source: https://www.seroundtable.com/noindex-canonical-google-18274.html). If you are using canonical on the subdomain it should be more than enough to deindex the subdomain version (if in any way it gets indexed) and resolve the duplicate content issue. Greetings, Keszi

Desktop in http and mobile in https
Unfortunately not, due to issues with data integrity and seasonal variations in traffic. What I can say is that it did not have a catastrophic impact on our traffic. Google still indexed both versions of the webpages if it found them, and chose to display one or the other. Since we don't have a constant to compare it with, it's difficult to ascertain the exact impact it's having. I can say that the less competitive terms with lower traffic we're ranking for just fine, but we're on page five for the most competitive term (with the most volume) we're attempting to rank for, and both an http and https page are vying for position. That's in part the structure being an issue, and also in part the content on the page is thinner than I'd like it to be. If you run into this issue on specific pages, try adding a rel canonical tag to the page you want Google to rank. If you use this strategy only when you check your rank tracking tools to see which pages are in the SERP and having issues, you can cut down on the maintenance, and quickly determine whether or not it's the duplicate content that's preventing you from ranking or if you need to focus on other on-site or off-site signals.

How do I customize Magento product urls?
I installed this extension- https://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/custom-product-urls-seo.html but could not figure out how to get it to work. In case anyone else runs across this here is what the developer sent me and it worked- "Second way to set url key using my extension is to tick products on product list in backend and use mass action "Set Custom URL". Then apply pattern to chosen products. Then again if you wish to chcek created url rewrites go to Catalog > Url Rewrites and see urls containing category names."

JSON-LD meta data: Do you have any rules/recommendations for using BlogPosting vs Article?
Yes, getting the meta data to be perfect is my goal. Not interestingly only about half the competitors sites have done it anywhere near approaching well. Perhaps correct implementation of schema.org is given more priority in some sectors rather than others? Andy
